Born in Tokyo, Japan, Tomoko Hagiwara completed her undergraduate and graduate studies from the prestigious Tokyo University of Fine Arts and Music. An invitation to expand her career in the United States lead her to further studies at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Under the tutelage of Adolph Baller and Lili Kraus, she was noted to move audiences with her passionate interpretation and remarkably delicate tone quality. As the winner of the San Francisco Symphony Competition, Tomoko Hagiwara, made her debut in the United States performing with the San Francisco Symphony under Maestro Josef Krips. She received further acclaim at the Long-Thibaud International Piano Competition in Paris and the Queen Elizabeth International Piano Competition in Brussels. In 1994, she performed the United States Premiere of Hummel's Violin and Piano Concerto with violinist, Ernestine Riedel Chihuaria. She has been a long-time faculty member of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and continues to perform and record numerous solo and chamber music works. Upcoming releases include Haydn, Schubert, Chopin, Schumann Liszt, and Bartok.
