Biography

| I was born in Turkey in 1950 where my father was stationed and moved from there to Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, where I heard my first Johnny Cash Yellow-Sun single and my brother's first Gibson. I taught myself guitar by listening to Milt Okun, Chet Atkins, Jobim, Charlie Byrd, and Bert Janch and took it seriously after seeing the movie Woodstock. I started writing songs under the influence of Dorothy Shea, Joni Mitchell, and Cole Porter and moved to Berkeley, California, in 1973. Four of us formed one of the first touring radical feminist bands of the 70s, The Berkely Women's Music Collective, and with our two albums, we toured for the next six years. We helped establish the nationwide Women's Touring Circuit, and since then I've played with Robin Flower, Libby McClaren, Holly Near, Barbara Higbie, June Millington, and others. I'm also a youth development and educational consultant specializing in school change linking social issues and academic curriculum (service-learning). I've lived in Sonoma County, California, since 1984." |
