Biography
Jeff Jones writes and performs music from a global perspective. From conducting residencies in schools around the state as a roster member of the Arizona Commission on the Arts, to performing and composing music for his bands Briza Brazil and Mosaic, Jeff is influenced by the music of the world. After many years as a sideman for some of Arizona's best bands, Jeff struck out on his own in 1997 with the CD "Mosaic" which was made up of originals and covers of songs done in world styles. Samba, Bossa Nova, Latin Jazz, and Reggae all influence Jeff's writing and song choice. His latest CD, "Briza Brazil, Live at the Kerr" consists of Bossa Nova classics presented in a classic lineup.
Saxophonist Jeff Jones, leader and founder of Briza Brazil, was first attracted to Samba and Bossa Nova musical styles when he had the opportunity to perform with various Latin groups in Phoenix. It wasn't until a chance meeting with Brazilian drummer Miro De Sa in 1997 resulted in a studio collaboration, however, that Jeff's love affair with Brazilian music began in earnest. "Miro taught street Samba in Rio where he was born so I hired him to arrange the drums and percussion for Na Tonga, the opening song on Mosaic. Na Tonga received national airplay in 1998 hitting #12 on the Gavin Charts."
Jeff has now turned his sights on the classic Bossa Nova instrumentation and arrangements. "It wasn't until the last 5 years that I've been able to explore Bossa Nova and realize just how complex a style of music really is, yet it creates such a beautiful framework to paint melodies over.
Briza Brazil was accepted onto the Arizona Artist's roster in 2002 after assembling a world class group of musicians dedicated to performing the music of Brazil with its cool grooves, exotic rhythms and haunting melodies.

Staff Notes
| Smooth and sultry sounds from Jeff Jones and his talented band. Songs covered include traditional Latin jazz favorites by Jobim such as "Girl From Impanema" and "Desafinado", as well as interesting and innovative interpretations of jazz standards by Herbie Hancock, Freddie Hubbard, and Horace Silver, but done with a Latin flair. Listen with your eyes closed and you can almost feel your toes in the sand and tropical breezes gently blowing. - Michael Diamond, SongPeddler |
