    Down to Earth
    Betsy Wellings

    Biography

"I began my singing career nearly twenty-five years ago in a Mexican restaurant in Olympia, Washington. Though I have come and gone from Olympia since then, I live here at present and consider it my permanent home. I have had the privilege of combining my talents in a variety of musical settings: from duos and trios to larger Andean music groups and community choirs. I've found my ultimate musical partner now - my husband Eric Miller, a fine guitar player and vocalist - and we perform a generally folk repertoire centered around my original music, as well as some more mainstream party and children's sets. Our music is characterized by interactive guitar parts and rich vocal harmonies. We hope that our daughter Julianna will add in another harmony part before long.

My CD and cassette recording Down to Earth has gotten excellent reviews. It is a mix of philosophical, poetic and humorous lyrics, performed and recorded with great care to create a highly enjoyable album of folk style music. (Warning: do not let your mother listen to it unless you are prepared to let her borrow it for a few weeks.) This music reflects my honesty, heart, mind and soul, and speaks to both women and men."

    Accolades

"The songs are great and the arrangements are really wonderful!" - Joe Weihe, Singer-Songwriter, Seattle, WA

"Your voice is strong, clear, agile and confident. Good work !" - Peter Dyer,singer-songwriter, Davis, CA."I hope it won't seem untoward for me to write to you, since you don't know me. But I want you to know how much I am enjoying your CD, 'Down to Earth'...." - Gordon Rennie, M.D. Olympia, WA

"Listened to Betsy as I wrote this. It's good. I like it - the real stuff. Burl Ives is back ! It's great, please pass this on." - Soren Mills, VP of Marketing, Priceline Europe, London, England

"The songwriting and production were truly first-class. There is no reason that you shouldn't be of the same rank as Kate Wolf..." - Scott Armel, Musician, Member of Zalatar, Berkeley, CA

"I'm listening to your CD...just wanted to tell you I am really enjoying it, finally...My mother had grabbed it and it was weeks before I got it back... I thought this kind of music was a thing of the past-I'm glad to see it's not. Keep up the good work !" - Chris Kinman, Kinman Pickups, Brisbane, Austrailia

"Betsy's music, lyrics and beautiful vocal harmonies are combined in songs I love to hear over and over." - Linda Book, Songwriter, Children's Performer, Davis, CA

"I am writing to tell you how very much I liked your tape. I get handed things quite often, and usually I only listen once, because I don't have a lot of listening time, since an important part of my life is silence. But your tape is different. It touched me right away, and has taken up permanent residence in my car's tape deck, which is where I do a lot of listening....I really really like your songs, and feel it as a gift to have your tape." - Linda Waterfall, Singer-Songwriter, Olympia, WA

"Betsy has a pure, crystalline voice that grabs the ear, and songs that grab the heart. Down to Earth is a gift to us all." - Linda Allen, Songwriter, Folk Musician, Bellingham, WA

"Your music is so beautiful. Now I'm so curious to know how you found your path. You are an artist." - Maria Therese Brown, painter and teacher, Davis, CA."Down to Earth is a delight, a comfort and a musical sundae. Clearly, you've been cooking away on these songs--living them, crafting them, and pitting them out with that reliable insight and humor. Your voice is stronger, purer than ever." - Sandie Nisbet, Writer, Filmmaker, Professor, Olympia, WA

"Good songs ! Not the usual garbage you hear on the radio !" - Anonymous

    Staff Notes

Betsy melds an earthy sophistication with a Folk style that makes her listenable on a number of levels. From plaintive and sad to philosophical and resolute to whimsical and tongue in cheek, her music is enjoyable and enduring. Mariah, Madonna and Brittney may be able to grab larger audiences at first but Betsy's music will remain sweet and desirable for much, much longer.
